Aligning Your People Is the Real Work

Naming your strategy is a milestone, but it’s far from the finish line. Once your strategy is aligned, the next critical step is aligning your people.

Why? Because every person on your team has a unique lens on what success looks like. By asking “What does success look like?” and aligning on common outcomes, you create clarity and eliminate roadblocks before they derail progress.

The real magic happens when all your smart, capable leaders buy into a shared vision and commit fully to it—together. This is how great teams leverage the law of collective intention: when multiple people hold the same vision, the likelihood of achieving it skyrockets.

Ask yourself: Is your team throwing darts at the same target? Or is there work to be done to align and synchronize efforts for a shared success?

This process—what we call Strategy Realized in the Experience of Teamwork—is about more than achieving goals. It’s about creating an environment where your values and the humanity of your team are fully reflected in how the work gets done.

Here’s how you can get started:

1️⃣ Lead with Intention
Step beyond titles and roles to name what’s in the best interest of the team.

2️⃣ Ask the Big Questions
“What does success look like to you?” Get input from each functional area.
“What resources and support do you need to achieve success?” Identify gaps and opportunities.
“What experience do we want to have along this journey?” Define the tone and energy—whether it’s camaraderie, connection, humor, or fun.

3️⃣ Identify Gaps & Build Alignment
Notice differences in perspective. Where is alignment strong? Where is it missing? Proactively address these areas.

4️⃣ Plan for Accountability & Adjustments
How will the team hold itself accountable?
How will you support each other through setbacks, resource needs, or off-track moments?

5️⃣ Commit to Regular Check-Ins
Beyond progress on the WHAT, allocate time to reflect on HOW the work is being done. Revisit team energy, focus, and intentions. Do you need a reset, an energy boost, or realignment to stay on course?

Teams that consistently use this approach often achieve outcomes far beyond what they initially imagined.

Try these tactics with your team—or reach out to us if having an experienced facilitator will make the process easier and more impactful.

The truth is: Once you’ve named your strategy, the real work begins.
